Hypnotherapy, or hypnosis, is a way to bypass the conscious mind to access the subconscious, which is where permanent positive changes take place.
During hypnosis, you will enter a state of relaxation that is deep enough to allow your subconscious to take over. While you are in this state, positive suggestions are given. These suggestions will become ingrained behavior, if you desire this to be so.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):
What can I use hypnotherapy for?
Hypnotherapy can be used to either create positive habits, or to end negative ones. It is most commonly used for smoking cessation and weight-loss, but truly, the possibilities are endless. Hypnosis can conquer habits such as nail-biting and hair-pulling, fears and phobias, and self-defeating behavior patterns. It can also be used to build confidence and self-esteem, help with learning, and boost the memory.
What do I wear to my hypnosis session? Am I lying down or seated?
I ask patients to dress comfortably. You will be lying on a table during the session.
Will I be unconscious? I’m nervous about someone having control over me!
You are fully in control of your body and mind throughout the entire session. Hypnosis is simply a state of relaxation; it is very deep relaxation, but you never lose awareness of what is going on. You are not sleeping, and you are not unconscious. It is not magic, or mind-control; it is simply a way to utilize the most powerful tool at your disposal: the power of your mind.
Is hypnotherapy safe?
Absolutely! Again, you the one in charge of the session. As the recipient of hypnosis, you retain your free will, and can choose to accept or reject any suggestion given to you. You cannot be made to do anything that you are unwilling to do, and you are in a safe, secure environment during the session.
What does being in hypnosis feel like?
People LOVE being in hypnosis! Many people think that they are either going to leave without any memory of the session, or that they will be doing things against their will. Neither of these is the case. It feels quite similar to the dreamy state that you reach just before drifting off into a peaceful sleep.
What do you use to hypnotize me? Is it like what I've seen on TV and in movies?
I use nothing but my voice. There are hypnotherapists who use visual aids, but we all have our own styles and techniques, and I don’t use those types of tools in my practice. All you need to be put into the hypnotic state is the ability to listen. I, too, have seen movies and television shows about the evil hypnotist who puts his subjects into trance and makes them do terrible things while they are helpless not to submit. This is 100% pure fiction. I cannot stress enough, that you are always in full power and control over your actions throughout the hypnotic process.
